I can't believe it's the last day!

Today is the last at the awesome Enrich for the year. Unfortunately it is the last day EVER at Enrich for the year 6's, luckily I am a year 5 so I still have one more year at Enrich. Its the end of the year and you know what this means  its time for a little reflection.




The positives have to be passion time, the Wilson games, moving 20 spaces on the chess leader board, sea shepherd coming to visit,painting my beary cute money box (get it my money box is a bear, ha ha sometimes I make myself laugh.) and last but not least meeting new people and making great new friends.



The minuses are typing practice,Key competency, climbing up the water tower ( it's really high,) not being able to finish our environment project and that I am losing some great friends to high school.





What has been interesting this year was the science when we dissected a pigs eye ball.  

It's finish ...it's a miracle!

Hi guys,
How are my favorite followers doing? I am great, actually I am better that great, I am fantastic, because I Joey Sheppard have just finished my bear money box. I am extremely proud of myself because at first I didn't think I could do it but I did. It was very hard to choose what color  I wanted, then it was the painting, don't even get me started on that! But now that its finished I realized that no amount of staring is going to get it to paint itself, well unless its a magic money box but I think thats highly unlikely. Save the whales!!

Hey look its a minke whale. Talking of  whales Grant Meikle from Sea Shepherd came to talk to us about whales.  If you don't know what Sea Shepherd is it is a  ocean animal society, that is stopping the extinction of ocean animals, and the best part is  they  have a branch here right in  New Zealand. I learnt  a lot of interesting facts and ways that we can help save some of the earths rarest living mammals because they going to be extinct if we don't do something about it. I also found out out some thing that are rather disturbing. Did you know that the Japanese are whaling way over their allowed limit and are killing more than 900 whales. The Sea Shepherds  have successfully cut that down to 300-500 which is huge. This talk has made me think that when I grow up I might want to be a Sea Shepherd.  

And don't forget to... SAVE THE WHALES!

There's a first time for everything !

Even though I've been at Enrich for almost a year now I have never done a video post which is a bit strange so I'm going out of my comfort zone and doing one .I hope you enjoy.

My day at Enrich

This morning When I came to Enrich I did a before school pick it was all about how our body and other animals reacts to fear, it was pretty amazing  and very insightful. After morning tea I did affective with Alana. Todays topic was on a 12 year old girl called Adora Svitak. She is a gifted inderviduale just like me. She gives talks about how adults should listen to children, she also said  that just because you're a kid dose not mean that you can not reach you dreams.   I have a video of Adora giving a speech to people on an a american TV show called TED .

MacGyver technology challenge

 Today at Enrich we did a  MacGyver  technology  challenge.

 MaCgyver is an 80's TV hero who would get away from the bad guys by using rubbish to make his escape tools, he was also very famous for his mullet.


We had to recreate one of the stunts that Macgyver  did.  What you had to do was you had to make a device to retrieve the hammer and chisel  to break the concrete  that surrounded your feet. You only had 15 minuets. My device sadly was an EPIC FAIL!!!!  It was a very good experience but I would hate to be MacGyver. Happy School Holidays!

What up !!

Today is the last day at Enrich for the school term :(  But on the other hand it means the holidays are  coming!!  Yay !!! 

Anyway Today  for passion time I was illustrating  for Claire's  story called ''Samantha Cree'', it is  about  a country girl, but it she's  not like any other girl  and its just really exciting and leaves you on the edge of your seat.  It has been really fun and I can't wait to come back next term until next time . Recycle for the future !!

Today at   Enrich I only came at 11.30  because I was at my dress rehearsal for the ILT sing out .I had a blast,  and I can't wait for the concert  tonight!!

 When I finally  came to Enrich we did P4C with Katie and we talked about how in the olden days we  didn't have the ''green thing back then''. Katie asked us what we are going to do to make a small difference in our home or community. I said that I wasn't going to play on the computer or watching Tv  instead I was going  to go out and run around   and not use so much electricity , and recycle my plastic bottles, glass paper and cardboard .

Reuse, reduce, recycle!

Hi everybody ,
Today I came  at 12' o 'clock so I missed out on half of the day, so naturally  I won't have lots to talk about, but I know that we are doing passion time after lunch and  I am going to do sketching or drawing clothes I haven't quite decided yet.

But here is what I got up to.
First of all  we went to the garage reuse shop .''Oops I forgot to tell you about what my topic is , its recycling ,thats right the 4 R;s you know reuse, reduce,  recycle and repair the last one people don't really know. Anyway we went to the  place where the rubbish is recycled. then we went to  the disability   recycling center it was awesome it really made you think about what some people are doing to help the environment.

In the bush.

Hi guys ,
Today at Enrich I went to Seaward Bush with Katie and the crew. At Seaward Bush we met up with Tim and Alfrado. They are the people who are helping us with our environment project. First of all Tim gave ten of us a possum trap. Unfortunately I didn't get one but  never mind. Then we started to walk!


We had to to check the wax tabs that we put out last week we only got a few nibbles. We put out a few traps with apple in them because possums love apples. Next week we will need to check the traps hopefully we get something!


After we got back from Seaward Bush I did 3D drawing with Darryn it was really hard but I am glad I've done it because when I finished it looked AWESOME!!! Here is a picture of some of my 3D drawings I hope you like it .

Week 7 at Enrich

Hello everyone ,
Today at Enrich I  played a game of leader board chess and I won against Briana .I am now 9th on the leader board which I am very proud of!! After that I did debating with Katie and my team got a draw.After lunch I had to go to see Lindsay Hazley for my documentury and I got to hold a tuatara and  have a tuatara on my shoulder!!!  Which was AWESOME!! When I came back I did 3D drawings with Darryn.

Debating with Alana

Hi guys,

This morning I did debating with Alana. Our topic was why we thought that children under 18 should not be able to use facebook. I was on the team that thought children under 18 should be able to use facebook. My  team won the debate...but only by two points!! I was the team captain. At first I didn't want to be team captain but I gave it a go and I actually really enjoyed it. I can't wait till next time I do debating!!

Exploding Elephant Tooth Paste!!

Kia Ora everybody,

Do you know what Elephant toothpaste is? Well I'm going to tell you. Elephant toothpaste is hydrogen peroxide, food colouring dishwashing liquid and yeast mixed together.When all of the ingredients are mixed together they make a chemical reaction that makes them go all foamy and bubbly. But because Elephant toothpaste has hydrogen peroxide in it (which is poisonous )  elephants can't use it! I did the experiment with Jenni and it was super fun, but my one didn't turn out so great so here is a picture of another groups hope you like it, have a awesome day ,bye, Joey.

Week 2 at Enrich

Today at Enrich we drew a design for a mural. In your design you had to have icons to do with New Zealand or Invercargill.  I chose Tim Shadbolt as  a gorilla with Henry the tuatara on top of the water tower having a drink of speights beer.  In the background I had  mountains with the flag and sheep on them and I also had a drawing of New World and the museum in the sky.  I had a helicoptor with a banner saying ILT.  For my border I had a Maori kowhai panel.  It looks really cool!

Self Reflection for Term 2

Today, I had "Sing Out" at my home school, and a shared lunch, so I didn't get to Enrich until 1pm!  I had to catch up on my reflection and self-assessment for the term.  Here is my reflection sheet:

Kia Ora everybody,
To kick off the day we did a Wilson game - you had to get into partners (mine was Izzy).  You had to stay in a hula hoop while batting a balloon down the walkway.  We had to race another team!
At chess time I chalenged Pippa - it was a draw. 

Shortly after chess I did canstruction. My group is doing a minion. In my previous posts I told you that we were doing a Highlanders jersey, but we decided to change our minds because the Highlanders  jersey didn't look anything like a Highlanders jersey and so we went back to the drawing board. That's how we came up with the idea of making the minion. Above there is a picture of some minions. I hope you enjoy! Thats all for now, bye, Joey.

Tapa Cloth

Kai Ora everybody. This week at Enrich I started my tapa cloth. A tapa cloth is where you choose one or two images to do with the  pacific islands or what you assaociate with the pacific islands. I chose a jellyfish and a flower that the pacific hula dancers wear in their hair. Above there is a picture of the jellyfish and flower that I drew. Thanks for listening. Bye Joey

Week 5 at Enrich.

Kia Ora,everybody today we had chess time to see who would go to the chess tournament I was only 6 people away. :( For talent develement I'm doing canstruction and  we had to make a 3D model of what the Highlanders jersey would look like.We used a program called sketch up it was really hard to make all of the cans fit  together I so do not want to be an architect when I grow up because they have to use this program all the time. Passion time at Enrich.

Today at Enrich we did passion time  I am still illustrating a picture book.The book is about a girl called Kat and her cat Captain Awesome, and they fall through  loose floor board to another world.But this girl called Elizabeth and her posh bunny called Fluffy the lll are really mean and bully her.This is a picture of where I got my inspiration from for Kat. 

Passion time at Enrich for week 3

 Kai ora  everybody, today at Enrich we started a new thing called passion time. Passion time is where you can choose what you want to do as your passion. I choose illustrating an picture book, I can't wait to do passion time next week.That's all for now see you next week,Joey.

Field trip to wearable arts

This morning at Enrich we went to wearable arts at the museum.It was so awesome because there were touch screens so you can see the outfits being worn.My favourite outfit was ''The Butterfly'' it took 300 hours to make ''The Butterfly''because it glowed in the dark.See you soon,bye Joey.

Alana

The first day back

Today is the first day at Enrich for term two.For the morning task I did the quiz and a really fun game called Duck. I managed to get up to level 20 and there are 25 levels so I think  I did awesome.Soon after we did a Wilson game called zigzag balls it was  really hard.After the Wilson game I did p4c with Darryn .We talked about lying  eg: would you lie if your mum asked you stole a cookie and you did ,or if your friends asked you what you thought about her boots would you lie?I said that I would lie to a friend to not hurt her feelings.See you next time joey :)

Last day at Enrich for the term.

Today is the last day at Enrich for the term. So we did end of term stuff, like the learning wheel.  The learning wheel was to reflect back on our first term of Enrich for 2012. After the learning wheel we played a game of dodge ball, I was in the final against Alex, we ended up having a tie. Thank goodness for that  because I was starving!! Anyway this will be my last blog post for the term,but I can't wait till term two at Enrich!!!!!!!:) :) :)

SCAMPER

 Today we did SCAMPER. Each  letter in the word SCAMPER stands for something.The s in it  means substitute ,the c = combine,the a = alter,the m = mega/mini,the p = put to other uses, the e is eliminate and the r is revers.  My group made lots of cool and funny things out of our prop which was a black foam mat, for example we used it as a waiters tray.See you later, bye for now Joey.
